Rüüt, Pluvialis apricaria

Harjumaa.
43. Getting close to the subject does not always work out - I wanted to make portrait shots of a Eurasian Golden Plover but this was as close as I got. Harjumaa, Estonia.

Kaelus-kuningkalur, Megaceryle torquata

Kaelus-kuningkalur õigustab selgelt oma nime. Foto tehtud õhtuhakul Vaikse ookeani kaldal, Nicoya poolsaarel, Costa Ricas.
Ringed Kingfisher clearly justifies its name. The photo is taken in the evening by the coast of Pacific ocean in Nicoya peninsula, Costa Rica.

Savannihaigur, Ardea melanocephala

Eristuv.
Sterkfontein Dami looduskaitseala, LAV.
Distinguishable.
Black-headed heron does not go unnoticed in savannah. The "camouflage" is rather uneffective during the dry season, I would say. The bird is very similar to our own (I mean european) grey heron concerning the size and the looks. Sterkfontein Dam Nature Reserve, South Africa.

Hänilane, Motacilla flava flava

Kui siin sai näha haruldast kuldhänilast, siis see on palju tavalisem (kuid Eesti lindude mõistes ikkagi väga värviline) lambahänilane (ehk lihtsalt hänilane). Kusjuures on esinenud juhtumeid, kus need 2 liiki on moodustanud ka ühiseid paare ning saanud järglasi. Pärnumaa.
Here you could see a rare citrine wagtail but this one is much more common (although still very colorful concerning the Estonian birds) Blue-headed Yellow Wagtail. There are recorded occasions, though, where these two species have mixed and had offsprings. Pärnumaa, Estonia.

Laimokk-ninasarvik, Ceratotherium simum simum

Nannipunnid!
Wussies!
The rhino with its back towards the photographer is a dominant male who enjoyed a lovely day by the waterhole. Until a bunch of youngsters approached from the bushes. The juniors new who is the boss but still tested the limits because they also wanted to drink. At one moment the limit was exceeded for the alpha male and it ran angrily towards the young ones. Although the bachelors had the upper hand (all of them were almost the same size as alpha and there were five of them), they all rushed towards the bushes like young bucks. They returned to the waterhole only after the alpha had left. White rhinoceros, uMkhuze Game Reserve, Mkuze, South Africa.

Mõtus, Tetrao urogallus

Metsis peaks ju metsas olema!
Western Capercaillie or wood grouse should be in the woods not on the field! This spring I was visiting several times a patch of forest where you might find a capercaillie but did not even see this bird from afar. Well, no wonder the woods are empty when ones are lingerig out in the fields :) Jõgevamaa, Estonia.

Arenali vulkaan

"Mount Doom" in Mordor :) Well, actually Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica that was hidden under the cloud blanket the whole time we were in the area. Only when driving away we could see for a moment the congealed lava fields and mystical green slopes.

Habe-rohtlavint, Serinus mozambicus

No ei tahtnud see habe-rohtlavint pildistajaga koostööd teha. Kord ühe oksa taga, siis teise oksa taga. Justkui meelega nörritas :) Krugeri rahvuspark, LAV.
This yellow-fronted canary did not want to cooperate with the photographer at all. At one point behind one branch, then behind the other. It seemed like it did on purpose :) Kruger National Park, South Africa.

Punajalg-tilder, Tringa totanus

Punajalg-tilder on oma tavapärasest keskkonnast veidi eemaldunud. Veekogude kaldad ja üleujutatud niidud on korraks asendunud heinamaaga. Harjumaa.

Põhiliseks asurkonnaks on Aasia põhjaosa. Leida võib teda Eestis vesistelt aladelt, sest linnule meeldib vees ringi kahlata. Foto tehtud Pärnumaal.
Citrine Wagtail is a protected species and a rare bird in Estonia and Europe as a whole. The main habitat lies in Northern Asia. In Estonia you can see the bird in wetlands and estuaries as this wagtail likes to wade in the water. The photo is taken in Pärnumaa, Estonia.
