Endeemne Taiwani linnuliik, kel kahjuks veel eestikeelset ametlikku nime pole. Elupaigaks on tal keskmäestiku metsad (vahemikus 1500-3000 meetrit ü.m.p) ja juhul kui ta otsustab tihnikust välja tulla, ei ole lindu kellegi teisega võimalik segamini ajada. Taiwan Barwing is endemic to Taiwan and it can be found in mountainous forests (between 1500-3000 metres a.s.l). If it decides to step out the thicket, you cannot mistake it with any other species. The photo was taken in Xitou Nature Education Area in central Taiwan.

Aed-Põõsalind on üsna silmatorkamatu - hallikaspruun ja möllab ringi peamiselt tihedas põõsastikus. Seetõttu pole ka imestada, et see üsna levinud lind on varasemalt vaid ühe korra mu kaamera ette jäänud. Seekordne ülesvõte sai tehtud Harjumaal.

Garden Warbler is not a noticeable bird - greyish brown and it usually operates in thick bushes. Therefore it is not surprising that I have captured a photo of this quite common warbler only once before. This time the photo was taken in Harjumaa, Estonia.

Need 3 pilti on mul ooterežiimis seisnud nüüd juba peaaegu 7 aastat. Ning seda sel lihtsal põhjusel, et ma ei suutnud liiki ära tuvastada. Ainuke kandidaat välimuse alusel oli rohupart, kuid see part elutseb ainult Austraalias, aga pildid on tehtud hoopis Burgundias, Prantsusmaal. Ning ühtki viidet, et mõni hulkur oleks ka Euroopasse jõudnud, ma ei leidnud. Kuni selle aasta kevadeni. Juhuslikult jäi silma üks artikkel, kus kirjeldatakse rohupardi vaatlusi Suurbritannias ja ka mujal Lääne-Euroopas, mistõttu julgen nüüd pildid ka üles laadida. Kuna Euroopas on endiselt tegemist suure haruldusega, on see tõesti suur üllatus, et ta minusugusele turistile Burgundias objektiivi ette jäi.

These 3 photos have been in my blog waiting list for almost 7 years and just because I could not identify the species. Australian wood duck was the only candidate but this duck can be found only in, you guessed it, Australia. But the photos were taken in Burgundy, France and I did not find any information about sightings in Europe. Until this spring. Then I saw accidentally an article that was talking about Australian wood duck sightings in Great Britain and other western European countries therefore now I have confidence to upload the photos in my blog. It is still a big rarity in Europe therefore it is a big surprise that a tourist like myself was able to capture some shots of the duck.

Uus nägu blogis! Jah, hallvarese pilti pole siin varem presenteeritud, sest... no ta on ju lihtsalt vares. Nüüd, kui lind ennast portree tegemiseks ise kaamera ette sättis, sai minu jaoks teatud künnis ületatud ning siin ta siis on - hallvares otse Harjumaalt. 

New face in the blog! Yes, there has not been a single photo of a hooded crow here because... well it's just a crow. But now when the bird actually landed in front of my camera for a portrait shot, I decided that the threshold is reached so here it is - hooded crow from Harjumaa, Estonia.

Ngakoro järv

Maaliline Ngakoro ehk Vanaisa järv Waiotapu geotermaalalal, Uus-Meremaal. Järve toitvate allikate keskmine temperatuur jääb 75-90 kraadi Celsiuse vahele, kuid kuna järve pindala on suur, siis ülemistes kihtides on vesi ainult õrnalt leige. Ngakoro tekkis üle 700 aasta tagasi termaalpurske tagajärjel ning see vanus on ka ilmselt sellise nime saamise peamine põhjus.

Scenic Lake Ngakoro (grandfather in maori) in Waiotapu geothermal area, New Zealand. The springs feeding the lake have an average temperature of 75-90 degrees Celsius but as the surface area of the lake is quite large, the water is only mildly warm in upper parts. Ngakoro was formed after an eruption more than 700 years ago and the age is probably the main reason behind its name.

Punapea-varti kohtab Eestis peamiselt rändeperioodil - märtsist maini ja septembrist novembrini. Paikseks jääb siia hinnanguliselt vähem kui 1000 lindu ning Eestimaa talve julgevad trotsima jääda vaid mõned üksikud. Foto tehtud Harjumaal.

You can most likely meet Common Pochard in Estonia during the migration periods - from March to May and from September to November. Less than 1000 birds choose our country as a nesting place and only a few stay here for the winter. The photo was taken in Harjumaa, Estonia.

See sinine tangara on üks suur magusasõber (lemmiktoiduks puuviljad ning nektar), keda võib kohata kõikjal troopilises Ladina-Ameerikas. Fotod said tehtud Sarapiqui orus, Costa Ricas.

Blue-gray Tanager has a "tooth" for sweet things (favorite food includes fruits and nectar) and it can be found everywhere in tropical Latin America. The photos were taken in Sarapiqui valley, Costa Rica.
