Grallaria flavotincta, Yellow-breasted Antpitta

Lõpetame aasta haruldusega - eestikeelse nimeta lind, kelle elupaik on üsnagi piiratud. Nimelt võib teda väga hea õnne korral leida Andides, Vaikse ookeani pool asuvates niisketes metsades Colombia keskosast kuni Põhja-Ecuadorini. Aga pigem teda siiski ei leia, sest tegemist on väga ara linnuga, kes möllab ringi metsa peidulistes alumistes kihtides. Mulle naeratas õnn Mindo pilvemetsas, Ecuadoris.

Ending the year with a true rarity — a Yellow-breasted Antpitta, a species with a very limited range. With plenty of luck, it can be found in the humid Pacific-slope forests of the Andes from central Colombia to northern Ecuador, though it’s often missed due to its shy nature and habit of keeping to the forest understory. I was fortunate enough to encounter it in the Mindo cloud forest, Ecuador.
