Tähnikkoolibri on väike lind, kes elutseb Andides Venezuelast ja Colombiast
kuni Argentiinani, tavaliselt niisketes mägimetsades, metsaservades ja
põõsastikes 1500–3000 meetri kõrgusel. Oma väikese musta
nokaga toitub ta peamiselt nektarist, kuid toidulauale satuvad ka putukad ja
ämblikud. Erinevalt paljudest teistest koolibridest tegutseb tähnikkoolibri enamasti
üksinda. See foto sai tehtud Ecuadoris, Mindo pilvemetsas.
The Speckled Hummingbird is a small hummingbird found throughout the Andes from Venezuela and Colombia south to Argentina, inhabiting humid montane forests, forest edges, and shrubby clearings at elevations of 1,500–3,000 meters. With its tiny black bill, it feeds mainly on nectar from a wide range of tubular flowers but also supplements its diet with insects and spiders. Unlike many hummingbirds, it tends to forage singly. This photo was taken in the cloud forest of Mindo, Ecuador.
