Purpurkurk-kulmkoolibri, Lampornis calolaemus

Purpurkurk-kulmkoolibri, Lampornis calolaemus, Purple-throated Mountain Gem, castaneoventris, calolaema, hummingbird, koolibri, mountaingem
Purpurkurk-kulmkoolibri sööb lisaks lillenektarile ka putukaid ning on nende püüdmiseks välja mõelnud omanäolise viisi. Lisaks istumisoksalt lendputukate järgi sööstmisele, rabistab linnuraas ka tihedates võserikes, pekstes tiibadega vastu lehti, et saaki välja meelitada. Pildil on isaslind, hoopis teistsuguse välimusega emaslindu näeb siin. Curi-Cancha kaitseala, Monteverde pilvemetsas, Costa Ricas.
Purple-throated Mountain Gem eats also insects in addition to flower nectar and has developed a smart way to catch them. Besides sallying flying insects from their perches, this hummingbird also searches among dense foliage, beating their wings against the leafs in flight and flushing insects for consumption. On the photo is a male bird, you can see quite different female here. Curi-Cancha Reserve, Costa Rica.
