Sarapiqui org, Costa Rica.
White-necked Jacobin is usually seen at a high perch or just above the canopy. They are less common at lower levels, except when feeding on the flower nectar. This hummingbird averages at 12 cm, making it quite large compared to other similar species. This, though, does not make it slower - getting a Jacobin in a frame (not to mention a sharp picture) requires some time, a bit of skill and a lot of luck. The bird is "flapping" its wings upto 80 times per second and the flight speed is upto 50 km/h. Sarapiqui valley, Costa Rica.
