Kui ma varasemalt olen sellele ninasarvikute päästmisega tegeleva organisatsiooni lehele suunanud laimokk-ninasarviku piltide juures, siis teravmokk-ninasarvik on liigina veel hullemas seisus. Tegemist on kriitiliselt ohustatud liigiga ning järgmine aste punases raamatus oleks juba staatus "Looduses väljasurnud".
In previous posts of rhino photos I have added a link to this SaveTheRhino page in relation to white rhinoceros but the black rhinoceros (on the photo) is actually in a worse state. This species is critically endangered and the next step in the Red List is already "Extinct in the wild".
Neid on tervesse Aafrikasse alles jäänud ca 5000 isendit, laimokki on 4 korda rohkem.
Hoolimata suurtest pingutustest kaitse osas, tehti 2014 LAV-s kurb rekord - salaküttidele kaotas elu 1020 sarvikut mõlemast liigist ning neist 672 tükki selles samas Krugeri rahvuspargis, kus on tehtud ka antud pildid.
The sharper eye can see that even that black rhino is wounded, hopefully it survived. It was actually the only time in my almost 4-week-long trip that I saw black rhino. There are only about 5000 of them left in whole Africa, the white rhino population is 4 times bigger.
Despite the vast protection efforts, a grim record was set in South Africa in 2014 - 1020 rhinos (both species together) lost their lives to poaching and 672 of them inside Kruger National Park where the photos are made.
