Türkiismotmotid passivad okstel, traatidel liikumata seni, kuni söök
silmapiirile jõuab. Siis nad ründavad, püüavad saagi maandumata kinni ning
naasevad täpselt samale kohale tagasi, kus siis ohver enne söömist
uimaseks lüüakse. Toiduks sobivad erinevad putukad, vastsed, liblikad,
mardikad, ussikesed, ämblikud ja sisalikud. Motmoti kõver nokk ja
suurepärane nägemine võimaldavad linnul tehad kiireid ning täpseid sööste
isegi õhus lenneldes. See isend jäi pärast järjekordset õnnestunud jahti
pildile Carara rahvuspargis, Costa Ricas.
Turquoise-browed Motmots stay perched motionlessly on tree branches
until they see a prey item, then they strike. Without landing, they
swiftly catch their prey then take it directly back to their original
perching site or burrow, where it is knocked senseless before it is
consumed. These birds have a broad diet, consuming an assortment of
insects including caterpillars, butterflies, and beetles along with
worms, spiders, and lizards. Their curved bill, along with their keen
sense of sight allows them to plunge down and snatch their prey abruptly
even out of mid air. This turquoise-browed motmot was photographed after
another successful hunt in Carara National Park, Costa Rica.
