Uus-Meremaa endeemne liik - maoori mustmerisk. Välimuselt ja eluviisilt
on ta üsna sarnane Euroopa meriskiga, välja arvatud see, et kõhualune ja
rind on musta värvi. Tegelikult võib rinnaosa sel liigil olla ka
mustavalge kirju, kuid mida lõuna poole, seda vähem valget sisse viskab.
Liigi maoorikeelne nimi on torea-pango ja pilt on tehtud Abel Tasmani
rahvuspargis, Uus-Meremaal.
Variable Oystercatcher is endemic to New Zealand. Its appearance and
lifestyle are very similar to European oystercatchers except the fact
that the belly is all black. Well, it's not always black - as the name
hints, there are some variations and some birds have pied or mottled
frontal plumage. Blacker birds are more common in the south. This
species is called in maori torea-pango and the photo is taken
in Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand.
