Austraalia piilpart, Anas gracilis

Austraalia piilpartidel läheb liigina väga hästi ja üsna suuresti tuleneb see sellest, et linnud on väga paindlikud ja kiired muutustele reageerijad. Nende peamine levila on Austraalia, kuid kui seal juhtub mõnes piirkonnas olema põuane hooaeg, siis nad järgnevad vihmadele ja otsivad sobivama paiga elamiseks. Nii juhtus näiteks aastal 1957, mil tuhanded ja tuhanded linnud emigreerusid vihmade kannul Uus-Meremaale, mitmekordistades sealse piilpartide populatsiooni. Fotod tehtud Abel Tasmani rahvuspargis, Uus-Meremaal.
Grey Teal is doing very well as a species and it is mainly due to the fact that they are very flexible and rapidly react to the changing weather. Their "homeland" is Australia but if there is a drought, the teals are rapidly colonising new and suitable habitat following rain. This happened for example in 1957 when thousands and thousands of grey teals followed the rains to New Zealand, multiplying the local teal population by several times. The photos were taken in Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand.
