Tõmmukaiman, Melanosuchus niger

Tõmmukaiman on endeemne Amazonase jõgikonna liik ning maailma suurim kaiman, tippisendid võivad olla kuni 6 meetrit pikad ja kaaluda pool tonni. Oma levialas on ta tippkiskja ning isegi jaaguarid hoiavad nendest veekogudest eemale, kus tõmmukaimanid ringi ujuvad. Pildil olev isend oli selline paarimeetrine nooruk ning kaamera ette jäi ta Tarapuy jõel, Cuyabeno loodukaitsealal, Ecuadoris.

Black caiman is endemic to Amazon basin and it's the biggest caiman in the world, the largest specimens can be 6 meters long and weigh half a ton. In its habitat this reptile is an apex predator and even jaguars avoid the bodies of water where black caimans roam. The croc on the photo is a 2 meter long youngster and this shot was captured on Rio Tarapuy, Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, Ecuador.
