Lind, keda naljalt maa peal ringi jalutamas ei näe - tuttpütt (maoori keeles Puteketeke). Pildil on selle linnu alamliik australis, keda võib kohata nii Uus-Meremaal kui ka Austraalias. Antud foto on tehtud Uus-Meremaa lõunasaarel, Banksi poolsaarel asuva Forsythi järve ääres. Uus-Meremaal käis tuttpüttide käsi (tiib?) vahepeal üsna kehvasti - 1980-te algul oli neid arvatavalt alles vaid paarsada lindu. Tänaseks on populatsioon kosunud ligikaudu 600 linnuni, kuid kohata võib neid siiski ainult Lõunasaarel. Põhjasaare osas kirjutavad targad raamatud dramaatiliselt, et seal on pütt välja surnud.
A bird you do not see walking on land very often - Australasian Crested Grebe (Puteketeke in maori). You can find this subspecies of crested grebe in Australia and New Zealand and this photo was taken by the lake Lake Forsyth in Banks peninsula, South Island. In New Zealand the grebe was not doing very well in the 1980s - it was estimated that only about 200 birds were left at that time. By today the population has risen to about 600 individuals but still you can find them only in South Island. Or as all the books dramatically state - the bird is extinct in the North Island.
