Jõehobu oma pojaga (varsaga?) uMkhuze looduskaitsealal, LAV-s. Tavaliselt veedavad need loomad terve päeva vees ja tulevad kaldale alles õhtul, kuid sellel perel on vist rannapäev.
Hoolimata sellest, et jõehobu võib kohata pea igal pool Sahara-aluses Aafrikas (ning Niiluse ääres), on ta täna kvalifitseeritud juba ohustatud liigiks. Probleemiks on mageveele ligipääsu vähenemine ja ka salaküttimine (jõehobu võimsad kihvad on väärtuslik elevandiluu asendus ning looma liha on väidetavalt ka söödav).

Despite the fact that you can find hippopotamuses everywhere in sub-Saharan Africa (and by the river Nile), it is now identified as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List. The animals are threatened by loss of access to fresh water and poaching (their teeth have become a valued substitute for elephant ivory and the meat is supposedly edible).
