Suur-konnakotkas on suur haruldus. Kui tavaliselt on siin blogis väljanäitusel liigid, keda Eestis loetakse tuhandetes või kümnetes tuhandetes, siis suur-konnakotkast on meie mail vaid mõnikümmend lindu. Ning Harjumaal, kus antud foto tehtud on, piisab nende kotkaste kokkulugemiseks kahe käe sõrmedest. Sellest tulenevalt on see lind ka väga range kaitse all nii meil kui tegelikult ka mujal, kus teda leidub (maailmas hinnatakse suur-konnakotka arvukuseks 3000 paari).

Greater Spotted Eagle is a very rare bird. Usually I post in my blog the photos of the birds that you can find in Estonia in thousands or tens of thousands. Concerning this eagle, there are only 50-60 birds in our country and less than ten birds in Harjumaa region where this photo is taken. Because of that, Greater Spotted Eagle is level 1 protected species in Estonia and also in most countries of its range (it is estimated that there are only 3000 pairs of this eagle in the world).
