The name - Sacred Ibis - comes from the fact that this bird symbolized a deity called Thoth in Ancient Egypt. Due to that, the bird was often mummified, it appeared on the pictures and also many sculptures were made. In more mythical stories, it was also said that the flies that brought pestilence died immediately upon propitiatory sacrifices of this bird. Despite that this species is in good health - you can find it almost in all of Africa. iSimangaliso Wetland Park, South Africa.
