Huka kosk, Huka Falls

Waikato jõgi Uus-Meremaa Põhjasaarel naudib oma vooluteekonnal enamasti kuni 100 meetri laiust sängi, kuid vahetult enne Taupo järve jõudmist surutakse ta 15 meetri laiusesse looduslikku kanjonisse. Laiuse kuuekordne järsk vähenemine tähendab loomulikult seda, et voolukiirus suureneb meeletult ning nii tormabki sellest kitsast pilust tohutu hoo ja müraga läbi üle 200 000 liitri vett sekundis. 

Waikato river in North Island of New Zealand enjoys mostly a wide river bed (up to 100 metres across) but just before reaching Lake Taupo, it is pressed into a natural canyon which is only 15 metres across. Dimishing the width abruptly by 6 times means of course that the flow speeds up immensely and therefore you can see over 200 000 litres of water rushing through this bottleneck with exceptional speed and noise.
